Why does this lord of yours need so much praise and worship? Surely it is you that needs to give it, not an omnipotent god that has to have it?

Hi Philip. The Lord of the universe doesn't need anything. It is because He has granted me understanding of who He is and what He has done for me that I joyfully, willingly, give Him my praise and worship. Our Creator created us with a desire to worship. If we don't worship Him, we will worship something else-ourselves, possessions, other people. It just comes naturally to us. The architect of the Eiffel Tower expects to receive credit for his creation, why shouldn't God? We are wonderfully made, by Him. He designed and created the universe. The book of Job, chapters 38-41, is a great passage of scripture to read. It gives us who God is and His power and wisdom in creation. We are so not God, nor worthy of worship. 2 Corinthians 5:21 tells me what He did for me. This Lord of mine, Jesus, took my sin upon Himself. He bore the wrath of God that I deserved. I do need to give Him praise and worship. He is worthy of it, Philip. I'm going to point you to Isaiah 55:6,7. "Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD, and He will have compassion on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon."

"Our Creator created us with a desire to worship"
Didn't work for me. No desire to worship anything, not even chocolate.
"We are wonderfully made, by Him"
Our bodies are prone to disease and we still haven't quite mastered the bipedal stuff and please don't give me the 'Tree of Knowledge' answer as to why there is pain and suffering. We are evolving. It is plain to see that we descended from common ancestors.

You may find inspiration in the bible but all it means to me is the ramblings of some Middle Eastern deserty dwellers trying to make sense of their world, borrowing heavily on other myths in the process. As for saving us from sin, really, where do I start? Omnipotent God misses talking serpent in Eden, has to send self down as son to put it right by getting nailed to a cross. Big deal. He was only dead for a couple of days before he made it back up to the gig in Heaven. Guess I'm going to hell, but that's ok cos I'm sure god really does love me (and first-born children).

Phillip,
Just wondered why you stopped to comment in the first place...were you seeking to understand Kathy's perspective, trying to point out that you think her beliefs are foolish or do you just like a good argument? I'm just curious.

Hi

I saw the 'next blog' link when I was on Banana Man's site and I kept clicking. I think it's called a web ring? So I looked at a few posts as I have some free time over the holidays and couldn't resist adding my tuppence worth. Religion has a lot to answer for and if I can just get one person to open their mind, just a tad, then I will have achieved something. I welcome debate and alternative views but there needs to be some reason or ligic. Perhaps my blog will explain it better. http://philipgilbert.blogspot.com/

Hey Philip,

We are definitely coming from two different perspectives. What appears as nonsense to you makes perfect sense to me. To question the incredible creation of the human body, however, makes no sense at all to me. It looks like we probably won't see eye to eye. I'm not interested in a debate so let me just thank you for dropping by to share your convictions with me.

Oh, how I want a six week - I was going to say I would cut my right arm off for a six week, but then it would be about a 20 week because that's how much my arms weigh. Then I thought how hard life would be without that arm and decided I'll stay at my slow pace and keep plodding a long...still would love a six week!

The first week is always a big week. My pace will slow. Leave that right arm alone. You need it. What you've done in three months is amazing...you should be very pleased!
