Sermon Recap - Part 2

Empowered by the Spirit to be Courageous: Sermon Recap

  1. The world of video games provides an opportunity to exercise the human longing to be part of a greater mission. Problem is, it’s all pretend.
  2. No one is able to understand God through experience alone. The Bible and preaching provide context, explanation, and instruction.
  3. In other religions, you serve God. In Christianity, God serves you before you ever serve him.
  4. A politician, a draft pick, a new baby... everyone’s waiting for a messiah: somebody to make us better. Only Jesus can deliver.
  5. Morality can’t save. Religion can’t save. A temple can’t save. A pilgrimage can’t save. You can’t save. Only Jesus can save.
  6. Basic message of Jesus: “I’m God. You’re in sin. Repent to me or you will go to hell.” No wonder they killed him. We’d have killed him too.
  7. Nobody’s troubled by private faith but nobody’s going to get saved unless we go public. Love others more than your reputation.
  8. “As soon as I feel courageous, I’m going to talk to somebody about Jesus.” Wrong. Step out in faith and the Holy Spirit will empower you.
  9. Repent: The way you see God, the world, & your self is wrong, marred by sin. You need to change. That’s the message of the gospel.
  10. Stressed out? End of your rope? Your life isn’t working? God wants you to be refreshed, and here’s how: repentance (Acts 3:20).
